What is
Footvolley?

The Brazilian beach sport that combines the technical brilliance of soccer with the rhythmic flow of beach volleyball. No hands. Just pure technique.

The Story of Footvolley

In the 1960s on the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian soccer players faced a problem: they were banned from playing soccer on the beach. Their solution? Take a beach volleyball court, replace the hands-only rule with soccer technique, and create something entirely new.

The sport they created β€” footvolley β€” quickly became one of the most spectacular and technically demanding beach sports in the world. Players use their feet, thighs, chest, shoulders, and head to control, pass, set, and spike the ball β€” all without ever touching it with their hands.

Today, footvolley is played across Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and a growing number of countries. And right here in California, Bola Pra Cima is building the Bay Area and Corona del Mar footvolley communities from the ground up.

Facts

Born in Brazil

Footvolley was created in Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s when soccer players adapted beach volleyball courts for foot-based play.

No Hands

Players use feet, thighs, chest, shoulders, and head β€” but never hands. Every touch is a display of technique.

Beach Volleyball Court

Played on a standard beach volleyball court with the same net and dimensions, typically 2v2.

Soccer Technique

The ball control, juggling, and technique required are deeply rooted in Brazilian soccer. Many professional footballers play footvolley.

Global Sport

What started in Rio de Janeiro has spread across the world β€” Brazil, Portugal, Spain, USA, and more. The California scene is growing fast.

Full Body Workout
